Farm-to-Market Roads in Southern Senegal

Shelter For Life International has recently completed its project of building farm-to-market roads in southern Senegal. With the help of local laborers and contractors SFL rehabilitated and built a total of 133 kilometers (83 miles) of durable roads, along with 114 kilometers (71 miles) of roadside drainage ditches. The employment provided to over 1,400 cash-for-work laborers gave a boost to many families and the local economy. The new roads have helped bring peace to the region and are now enabling local producers to grow more agricultural products which can be shipped to regional market centers much more easily than before when the roads were narrow, rough, and often impassable during the annual rainy season.
