Shelter For Life is implementing UN World Food Programme (WFP) projects in Afghanistan, which include tree planting. Barren hillsides can be susceptible to erosion during heavy rains, and when landslides occur roads and homes can be damaged, and human life put in danger. These photos show a hillside being prepared for planting, and afterward young trees growing on the hillside. Trees help stabilize the soil and can prevent erosion, and also help the ground to hold more moisture so it can be more useful for agriculture. In some places many thousands of pistachio and fruit trees have been planted, which will produce food for local consumption and trade. Shelter For Life is pleased to be able to help rural communities in Afghanistan.

Rivers of Innovation: Shelter For Life’s Journey from Afghan Peaks to African Shores
For SFL, creative irrigation is not just a solution; it’s a way of life. With each project they undertake, they breathe life into barren land, turning deserts into gardens and dreams into reality. And as long as there are fields in need of water and communities in need of hope, Shelter For Life will be there, a beacon of light in a world thirsting for change.
